Sunday March 3rd's theme for Cycle was DISCO, complete with a disco ball spinning as we grooved to the sounds of Disco. Dance music of 70's TV shows including Soul Train, Dance Fever, and Soap Factory and movies like Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It's Friday helped launch Disco into mainstream culture.
Disco started with club-goers from the Afro-American, Latino, Gay and Psychedelic population in New York City and Philadelphia. The Huey's Corporation's 1974 "Rock the Boat" was one of the early disco songs to hit #1. Donna Summer eventually became known as the Queen of Disco. Gloria Gaynor won the 1979 Grammy for Best Disco Recording which was the first and only time this category was offered!
